Judicial appointment
Selection for judicial office is run by the Judicial Appointments Commission, independently of both government and the judiciary.

Becoming a magistrate
Magistrates are unpaid volunteers who sit in the magistrates’ court and the family court. Recruitment is open to applicants without legal qualifications.
Judicial training
The Judicial College is responsible for training the courts and tribunals judiciary, and publishes its prospectus annually.
HMCTS staff roles
Court staff — legal advisers, listing officers, court associates, ushers and administrative roles — are recruited through the Civil Service.
