Likely Developments in ODR

Although there are many ODR success stories, the technologies underlying the current generation of ODR systems are still at an early stage in their evolution. The ODR Advisory Group has been charged with the task of looking ahead and thinking strategically about ODR, which includes being alive to future developments. More formally, the terms of reference of the ODR Advisory Group include taking “account of technological advances and developments that will affect the use and attractions of ODR”.

In terms of ODR enhancements, this paper considers systems:

• to help analyze legal problems;
• to assist in negotiation;
• to assist in decision‐making; and
• that make decisions.
